Oh, Washington Post Going Out Gurus, how I love thee:
New Kid in Town:
Please help! After much persuasion, my best friend moved to DC this week from Milwaukee. She digs music (indie rock, think Death Cab and Arcade Fire) and laid-back or funky bars/venues. So if you were me, which of the following places would you bring her on Friday night: Black Cat for Army of Me; Velvet Lounge for Lucky Day, Alpha Order and Telograph; Iota for The Apparitions? Or something else? The best cheap eats near one of these places would also be nice.
David: Personally, I'd go with the Apparitions. I've been digging them a lot lately. A five-band bill at the Velvet Lounge might be a bit much and I'm just not a big fan of Army of Me. You could even eat the Iota cafe beforehand. |

| | Ben Folds | ] | Ok, so, some of you know the story about how while in Hawaii, my mother told rob that I was a fat cow. Or something like that. I found a forum of fabulous folks who had a few comments about this that just made my day:
This is my story:
Homecow and I went to Hawaii with my parents in December. We're in the back of the rental car while my mom drives. At a red light, she turns around and says: "Homecow, you see that girl out there with the nice little body? Your girlfriend used to look like that."
The response I got:
"What do you mean? She still looks like that. You, on the other hand, could stand to lose a few pounds."
"Well, you've got her beat by a mile. When was the last time your thighs didn't touch? 1964 or so?"
"And she looks so much better now!"
"How nice of you to take an interest in your daughter. Maybe you should focus on not being such a bitch instead."
"Why are you telling me this? You seem to think I give a shit. I don't."
"I don't see any girl out there. I do see a big 'ol bitch in here, though."
Some days I just need good validation that my parents are FREAKS.
now we're off to 6 flags. If we ever get the intraweb fixed at rob's, I'll be on AIM and shit to converse. Otherwise, leave me happiness in email, here or myspace, or explain life problems, and I'll respond when I get to work Monday. |

And for all the valentine's day haters...
I personally LOVE Valentine's Day. It's my favorite holiday! It's not about some spiritual leader I don't believe in or anything silly like that. It's the time to show the people you love that you love them. Not just your lover, but your friends and family and dog even. We in my little circle have proudly celebrated VD, sending each other packages and notes each year, though spread around in college. I consider this the chance to let everyone that I love know how much I love them. Rob or no Rob. |

[Feb. 9th, 2006|04:01 pm] |
I'm afraid to announce this on the board or anywhere that is deemed "official" by the band. They haven't announced it, though its been more than 2 weeks.
From the mouth of babes:
Date: Thu, 9 Feb 2006 06:18:51 -0800 (PST) From: John Hutchins Subject: Re: rumors OMG? To: Rebecca Chisholm <becca_nh@yahoo.com>
dude. . .i done left!! 930 club was my last show. . .i thought you already knew i was quitting. . .could've sworn i told you in an email, or at the old dc9. . . was supposed to play the last remaining shows before they went to the studio, but they had been working with some dude who is recording with them and we figured it'd be best if he played since i hadn't practiced with them in a while. . .so yeah it's all over :) and i feel f'ing awesome!!!!!!!! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee hahaha john
I'm sad, but very happy for him to be in such a great band that makes him happy. That would be Hello Tokyo www.hellotokyomusic.com and on myspace. I haven't liked the direction things have been going lately, so its good john got out.
He said other things that I'll keep to myself;-) |
